He has been a pleasure to train, ride, and own. We have known him since he was a yearling, started him as a 2 year old, bought him when he was 3, and have used him as our personal horse ever since. He has been extensively trail ridden here in Ohio, and traveled to South Dakota with us last June to be ridden there on our vacation. He has a great handle on him, and is so soft to your hands and seat that he can be ridden bridleless - even on our obstacle course! He is incredibly sweet, and eager to learn and please. He has a great stop and we are currently working on teaching flying lead changes. He has been hauled to many different places and settles in quickly to new environments. He has been ridden on two International Mountain Trail courses during their open schooling days and did every obstacle I pointed him at. For many of them he was ponying my 3 year old colt behind him. He has swam in Caesar Creek lake - with boats whizzing by and all - and has swam through our personal pond many times. He’s super trustworthy - I even let a 6 year old and an 8 year old ride him for their first swim through the pond! He’s been in multiple Helge’s Horse Training clinics (Horsemanship, Christmas Drill Team, and Water) and I’ve taken him in a cow horse clinic as well. In addition to the cow clinic, I have taken him to a reined cow horse lesson. So, he’s been introduced to cows and shows promise as a ranch type horse, but just needs more time with cows. One of my students, who is in her first year of showing, took Little Joe to an open show a couple of weeks ago. They brought home a ribbon for every class, and they were the W/T division champion! This student had only been on Little Joe once before, but he’s so easy to get along with they put on a great performance. Little Joe is more than fine with tarps, flags, umbrellas, and other "spooky" items. He loads and backs out nicely from straight, slant, and stock trailers. His mind is safe enough for the youngest of rider, but due to his level of training and his softness I would recommend him for at least an intermediate rider in order to bring out the best in him. An advanced rider will appreciate his handle and teachabilitly! He is overall a good minded, well broke horse who could fit many different riders’ needs. He could be someone’s safe trail horse, an older kid’s competitive 4-H horse, a competitive obstacle horse, or with more training someone’s ranch or reined cow horse! I’ve even played around with some jumping on him. Little Joe is sound and in great health. He is current on Coggins and vaccines, and is microchipped. If you are a current member of AQHA, we will gladly pay the transfer fee. His full brother is registered with NFQHA, and is 100% foundation bred. I would imagine Little Joe would be eligible for registration with NFQHA, as his full brother is.
