If you are looking for a safe, gentle, dependable gelding that you can throw out in the pasture and ride a couple times a month and not worry about getting bucked off of, then take a look at Rooster. He is a nicely built 14 year old chestnut gelding, 15.2 hh, with a pretty head and a kind eye. Rooster is gentle for just about anyone and stays that way even if not ridden regularly, and will not take advantage of his rider. He is not 100% sound, with a touch of navicular in his right front foot, but when shod properly he is easily managed and plenty willing to be ridden. Rooster is laid back and rides quietly on a loose rein, but will get up and go if asked. He has been used for all phases of ranch work including roping and gathering cattle in the pasture, sorting pairs, ponying colts, and doctoring calves. He would be the perfect horse for a young cowboy who wanted to help his dad or granddad around the ranch, a weekend trail rider or rancher who wanted a horse to check fence and push cattle, or just a safe horse to have around the ranch for trail riding or occasional cattle work. Rooster has never offered to buck or rear, and is the type of horse you can let sit for weeks and then just hop on without having to worry about getting bucked off. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. He has good ground manners and is easy to load, haul and shoe. He can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, will easily lead or follow, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group.
