If you are looking for a horse to ride on the ranch and work cattle with, then take a look at Brooks. He is an 11 year old red roan gelding carrying the Spike Box Ranch Brand, 14.3hh and built well with plenty of bone and stout enough to carry a man all day long. He is currently being ridden by a 67 year old man. Brooks has been a slave on a big ranch out in West Texas his entire life, where he was used for all phases of ranch work, including sorting pairs, roping and doctoring cattle in the pasture, and dragging calves to the fire. He is good on the end of a rope and will pull anything you can rope, and has a good work ethic. Brooks is broke the way one should be, with a light mouth and excellent handle, and he has a smooth trot and wonderful rocking horse lope. He is good on both leads, will step right into a lope from a walk or trot, will sidepass and wok off your leg. Brooks is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and will go up, over or through anything you point him at. He rides quietly on a loose rein and has been taught to travel out and cover some ground. Brooks has never offered to buck and is not spooky while you are riding him, but can be a little watchy on the ground. He is not an outlaw, just a cowboy horse that has been ridden many, many miles and used strictly as a tool. Once he knows you are going to be kind he enjoys the attention. Brooks can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, will easily lead or follow, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. He has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. Brooks is easy to load, haul and shoe, he stands quietly tied and gets along well with other horses. $3500.
