Description:
This is a pair of handmade single mounted spurs made by long time bit and spur maker Kevin Elkins from May, Texas. He is listed in Bits and Spurs, Motifs, Techniques and Modern Makers by Ned and Jody Martin. The book says he uses 1018 cold rolled steel and his customer base includes ex-Dallas Cowboy Chuck Howley and former president George W Bush. The spurs are marked Elkins and numbered 218 on the outside of the heel bands under the offside hanger. The spurs are steel with a natural patina and are mounted with twelve pieces of nickel silver. There is a wheat stalk engraved in the steel between the mountings on the outside shank. The spurs are in used condition and there is some play in the rowels but not a lot. There is wear on the mountings, engravings, and hangers but they still have a lot of use left in them. These spurs would be nice to use or a great pair of spurs to add to a collection from a very collectible maker.
