This is a trade-off situation and not a paid position so if that is what you are looking for, no need to contact me. Prefer an older more mature couple where one is home during most of the day keeping an eye on the place. A retired ranch couple trying to save money would be excellent. I could have other work to do there for pay if you prove you are a jack of all trades. As well as at my aunt’s ranch next door. So here it is: I am looking for a live-in caretaker of the ranch and our cows. I have a fully furnished mobile home near San Marcos in small town of Zorn, it’s on a 100 acre ranch with a 55 acre lake on property. I’d like to sell most of my cattle herd and get it down to a manageable number of maybe 10 - 15 cows. Right now we have about 55 cows and one bull. I live in San Antonio so I have been coming up weekends to care for things but I want a trained farm hand on premises to watch over place daily. I would let you live in house free with bills paid until we get the cow numbers down. Then I would give you the option to place some of your own cows on land if you wanted to rent the house for a fair rate and you could put an agreed upon number of your own cows on property too. If you didn’t want to do that, we would keep the free room and board arrangement going. I would pay for all supplies to maintain farm and its equipment too. I have a hay supply from our other farm in Seguin so we could talk about sharing hay supply at a reasonable rate too if you wanted to add your own cows later or share the cost of transport over - we could negotiate when the time comes. The main thing I need now is someone with cattle knowledge and honest character maintaining the place. It’s a beautiful century old certified farm with a lake, running creek and several ponds feeding from the lake. Just needs regular fence & field maintenance, cows fed, etc. I recently rebuilt the cattle shoot and did a huge repair of the barn by adding a concrete slab on tractor side. Also want to clear more land of mesquites in near future as well as clear debris at creek and lake areas. I would prefer to leave existing furniture in house so yours could be stored somewhere. I may have some room in our 18 wheeler for free if it’s not too much stuff. If you prefer your stuff around, we could move mine out. I’m flexible. I would want to still stay in house on occasional weekend visits in spare bedroom but hope to only need to come once a month once you take over. This arrangement would allow you to work for others while living there too so it could be a great way to save and make money for yourself. The scenario could benefit us both if I can find the right person. I also have a small farm truck, flatbed, cattle trailer, and International Harvester tractor you would be able to use most or all of this equipment for management of the ranch. The tractor is being repaired right now. We have been throwing tow ropes around hay bales in meantime and pulling them out one at a time to feed cows. The farm belongs to my mom who I am the guardian of, she has Alzheimers and is in a long-term care facility. I have to pay $4000 a month for her care so this is why I need this kind of barter situation. I want a semi-permanent living arrangement where you consider this your home and take pride in the place and property. I will take good care of you if you do the same.
