He is really fun to ride and can do any job a cowboy needs, with a motor that could outlast the energizer bunny. He is ready to work and loves having a full time job. Panther is a nice looking, well built 14.3 hh gelding. He may not be a big horse but he has more heart and try than most horses twice his size. Panther was owned by an older gentleman for most of his life, and came off of a big cow/calf operation outside of Canyon, Texas. He has been used to do every aspect of ranch work and knows his job inside and out. He has literally doctored thousands of calves, and he will stand and hold the rope while you doctor. He has been roped off of in the pasture, ridden pens, drug calves to the fire, bulls into the trailer, ponied colts, and has sorted pairs. Panther is very good on the end of a rope and will not get you into a bind. He is strong to the horn and will pull anything you rope, and is extremely responsive and catty. There were some days they would have to long trot 8 miles to the back pasture to check on calves, so he has been taught how to move out and cover some ground. I bought Panther a few months back intending to show him in the Ranch Horse Versatility Shows but he is way too much horse for me. He would make a jam up heel horse, calf horse or breakaway horse. He needs a full time job, not just 3-4 hours a week of riding. He is a cowboy’s using horse, not a horse for the trail rider or weekend warrior. He is very respectful and broke with excellent ground manners. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. Panther has the smoothest little jog you could ever imagine, one you could sit to all day long and never get sore. He has an excellent handle and stop, is good on both leads, will sidepass, work off your leg, and work a gate. Panther would make an excellent heel horse or breakaway horse, as he is very quick and responsive. He can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. Panther has been ridden on 15 mile per day trail rides, with wagons and stuff, has been ridden alongside the road and in traffic, and isn’t phased by any of it. Panther has excellent ground manners and is easy to catch, load, haul and shoe.
