I first saw a Keith Valley saddle several years ago at a tack shop in Hot Springs County, Wyoming. Immediately, I knew it was something special and bought it; since then it’s carried me over many a trail in the high lonesome. After two years I wanted another one and chose this roughout Wade. Keith was kind enough to meet me personally in Idaho last fall to let me try it out on his own horse. Here are the specs:

15 1/2" finished seat

Guadalajara Horn

Cheyenne Roll - 1 3/4"

Stainless Steel hardware Flat Plate 7/8" riggin

Gullet - 7 1/2" H by 6 1/4" W by 4"

92 degree North West Quarter horse bar

7/8" Flat plate riggin

Cantle 12 1/2" wide by 4" high

I favor roughout leather as it seems to hold better during maneuvers.

This saddle is basically new and only has two rides on it. Why? To make a long story short, we ended up having put down my favorite horse; we then purchased two Missouri foxtrotters and the advice of the trainer is that this saddle is not the best fit for their particular builds; it’s much more optimal for a good quarter horse.

Last month I received the unfortunate news that Keith Valley had been in a bad horse accident that "broke his nose, crushed the bones in his forehead, and broke both of his wrists." This put his work on hold and makes his saddles even rarer now - and it just doesn’t seem proper to have this fine piece of work sitting unused in the tack room (the good news is he’s recovered enough to make saddles again).

If you want a truly Cadillac saddle for both work and leisure - a saddle that’ll last a lifetime - I’ve ridden no finer. Keith told me it’s a honest $5000 piece. I’m willing to take less, but if it goes much below asking price I’ll just hold onto it. It’ll fit my next horse, guaranteed.
