I have a small family and we are looking for a place to call home. I have extensive cattle handling experience (cow/calf, yearling, commercial, and registered). Ranch skills include: branding, calving, sorting, doctoring (in a pasture or in a pen/chute), feeding, maintaining water, windmill work, operating heavy equipment, maintaining ranch roads, general mechanical skills, intermediate carpentry skills, general handy man skills, ability to build and repair fence, ability to weld and build pipe pens, and all the other skills you develop from living in the country all of your life. I have experience with hunting and dressing game, although I don’t personally care to hunt. I also have experience trapping. My wife and I were both raised on working cattle ranches, which we bring a lifetime of agricultural experience from. I have had ranch hand positions, colt riding/starting jobs, and feedyard positions that I bring my professional experience from. I feel comfortable saying I can do most any task assigned. If I don’t know how, I will figure out how. I understand that certain aspects of ranch work require a crew (working cattle, branding, etc.), but on a day to day basis I am very comfortable working independently. We are looking for a family friendly ranch. My wife enjoys helping when she can, anything from opening gates for the feed truck to gathering cattle and branding. We currently have one young child but are hoping to have one more in the next few years. It’s important to us that we work at a place that is family friend, and will allow us to teach our children the virtues of hard work and clean living. I’m not just looking for a job, I’m looking for the right opportunity for me and my family. We would prefer NM or CO, but will consider TX, AZ and possibly other states in the Southwest/Midwest if it were the right opportunity. I’m looking for a traditional working ranch/cowboy position handling livestock and using horses to work cattle. I am not looking for a position with a guest/dude ranch, recreational ranch, or vacation property. I’m not interested in being a caretaker or a babysitter, I’m looking for a ranch job.
