Here is a headstall from the 40’s / 50’s in good used condition with an excellent handmade bit from an even earlier era. The leather is alive and pliable plus the brow band and cheek pieces are nicely hand carved typical of bridles of that time. The bit is overlaid with 14 pieces of engraved Sterling silver along with 14 pieces of engraved copper. The S shaped cheek pieces measure 8 ¼” not including the rein ring which is intricately attached in the bottom of the shank and slobber bar. The 7’ reins are from a later time and are in nice condition as well. No maker’s mark on either item that I have found. It is my opinion the bit was made by a blacksmith or craftsman that took a lot of pride in his accomplishments. Very useable and collectible. $185.00 includes shipping to the lower 48.
