Description:
The ranch is 5,200 acre family owned and operated private ranch in Leakey, Texas. The ranch has a 65 +/- head herd of registered Red Angus cattle. While cattle work will be the primary focus of this internship opportunity, this is a family ranch with hunting being a main draw during the fall and winter months. As the cattle/wildlife intern on this ranch, we are seeking to find a driven young individual that aspires to learn the ins and outs of a working cattle operation, wildlife management, as well as hospitality and guest relations. The manager works for the family business in Houston, Texas but will be at the ranch several times per month to help work cattle and general ranch duties. With this said, the intern should be self motivated and result driven. There is a man that currently lives and works on the ranch that will be working along side you and giving direction when needed. The tasks of this job will include but not limited to:



- Working cattle via horseback and ATV

- Checking cattle daily

- Vaccinating, deworming, weighing, tattooing and tagging cattle

- Checking waterers

- Disking, and planting oats on 65 acres using a tractor, disk and drill

- Cedar clearing via skid steer and clippers

- Road work/tank work via bull dozer and back hoe

- Feeding round bails

- Feeding cattle cake/cubes as needed

- Deer feeder filling and maintenance

- Pasture management

- Fence repair

- Scouting via blind sitting and trail cameras

- Cleaning game animals

- Pick up and drop off from blinds

- Guest relations and hospitality management

- Oak Tree care: spraying ball moss, trim limbs around compound

- Barn clean out/organization

- Trash/scrap removal

- Pen repair

- Pecan orchard salvage/maintenance: drip system repair, limbing, mowing ect.



Qualifications:



This position goes out to anyone willing and able to learn in a family style environment with a can do attitude. We welcome all agricultural/wildlife students to apply.



Start Date/End Date: As early as August 1st - Mid December. Potential for longer term if interested and selected.
