Description:
My name is Butch Lingenfelter. I am 54, married 33 years, 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren.

POSITION DESIRED:

We (my wife and I) are seeking a long term ranch position. If you need a manager, I can/have managed. If you need a foreman/supervisor, I can/have supervised. If you need a hired man to help get the work done, I can/have done that work all my life.

I am not impressed with "titles". I am a strong believer in team effort. When managing I strive to create a team where everyone is treated as an important part of the whole. Same as when I act as foreman or supervisor. When in the position of "hired man" I want to be treated in the same manner. Much of my life I have been all three positions at the same time.

What is most important to us (my wife and I) is the longevity of the position and the attitude of the employer. I will go more than the "extra mile" for those who appreciate the fact that I will.

PERSONAL:

I am currently employed at a large ranch in the sandhills of Nebraska.

The last four years I have devoted much of my time to a gold mine I owned in Colorado. This included re-opening the mine, evaluating values and determining feasibility of operating the mine on a commercial basis. During this time I have taken some part time jobs (during winter months) to stay busy, as well as to help generate some cash for myself. These jobs have all been ranch related (i.e. calving, branding, fencing, etc). The culmination of these efforts led me to realize that it was “bigger then me” and would require more resources than I had available. I then concentrated on selling it. It is now sold and is totally off of my radar, meaning I have no vested (financial or otherwise) interest in the mine.

My experience covers the following areas:

MANAGEMENT OR SUPERVISORY SKILLS/ABILITIES

1.Herd Health

2.Animal Nutrition

3.A.I. and Embryo management

4.Employee management

5.Payroll

6.Computer literate-with knowledge and experience in creating job specific records and programs

7.Fairly fluent in Spanish-especially if concerning cattle/horses or work.

I believe one of my stronger attributes is my ability to comprehend and help bring to completion, the short and long term goals of the owners. This includes the ability to recognize and detect road blocks to a successful outcome, and to eliminate or bypass those road blocks. Although, these attributes are essential when managing, they are also very beneficial in a non-management position.

HANDS ON RANCH EXPERIENCE

In addition to the above skills and experience I have personal and extensive experience in all phases of day to day ranch duties and functions. These include the following.

1.Hay production and harvesting

2.Pasture management

3.Calving: I have a long and proven record of successfully calving out both mature cows as well as first calf heifers.

4.Branding

5.Vaccinations

6.Fencing

7.Water management

8.Irrigation

9.Maintenance of all equipment and ranch facilities. I am not a mechanic therefore I have always been extremely aware of maintenance as the best way to keep equipment and the operation in general running smoothly.

10.I am above average in my horsemanship, and handling/working cattle horseback. I have worked cattle on 4 wheelers, but prefer horses for most cattle work. I am a cattleman/rancher first and foremost. I do not consider myself a cowboy, but I have the experience and ability to perform the ranching cowboy skills when required.

We would prefer a position in Colorado, Wyoming or Nebraska. We would like to stay in this area so as to be able to visit and have visits from our kids and grandkids.
