Description:


Let me explain the requirements of the wrangler position at Hidden Creek Outfitters.



Evaluate the ability of each colt and their capabilities for determining their future.

(I.E. Dude, Wrangling, Pack, to be sold)



Start colts and mules in halter, do all ground work, trailering, ride, teach to pack, teach picketing, teach hobbling, build pack strings. (Build string i.e. leaders, middle, ends etc.)



Introduce mountain trail riding for the new comers.



For seasoned dude horses, wrangler horses, guide horses ride, ride, ride, ride…

Bath and groom horses after workouts.

Keep daily report of scheduled rides and rotation.



Daily:

Keep current lists of all horses and mules

Feed daily, Keep water tanks full.

Check health of herd on a daily basis.

Clean barn daily.

Grain horses as needed.



Periodically-(to be determine):

Clean water tanks.

Farrier.

Minor Doctoring.

Worming.

Check conditions of mineral blocks.

Haul hay on trailer, stack hay.

Knowledge of operating bobcat, case.

Clean lean-to.

Check on pastured horses.

Repair fences as needed.

Attend horse sales and transport horses when necessary.



Season preparation responsibilities:

Check tack for conditions for upcoming season, repair tack as necessary.

Determine what replacement parts are needed to report to Bill.

Replace parts.

Make sure there is enough tack for each horse.

Clean all saddle blankets for upcoming season.

Maintain Inventory for tack.



During season operations:

Evaluate guests riding ability and match with a ride suitable.

Transport horses to trailhead.

Wrangler horses in mountains.

Picket or hobble as determined.

Bell horses/mules as determined.

Puts horses “to bed” and is first up to check the horses.

Have a shoe kit available in the mountains.

Doctor kit available in the mountains.

Construct tack room and corrals in mountains.

Saddle horses for guests.

Ride with guests if necessary.

Responsible for where a bouts of all horses and mules at all times (Ranch, Mountains, Trailhead, Pasture).

In the mountains this is a team player attitude, everyone is expected to help each other.



Hunting season the wrangler normally stays in the mountains from Sept when they go in until October 22 or 23 they stay with the stock at all times.

Must not be fearful of bears.





This position is from May to end of October.



Do you have any backcountry first aid certifications? Would you be willing to participate in such classes to become certified?
