Description:
I am a forty-six year old married man and have spent my life making good cattle, good horses, and good dogs. In the last twenty years I have worked on two ranches.

From 2006 to 2012 I was foreman on a 10,000 acre ranch in Nebraska that included a small feed lot and 450 pivot irrigated acres of grass and alfalfa. My duties included calving, heard health, weaning, and back grounding calves, along with pasture doctoring, roping, branding, and record keeping. I also managed the pivots, haying, water systems maintenance and the ranches horses including Ferrier work.

On this ranch I specialized in developing and range calving up to 500 head of replacement heifers annually, achieving live calf crops above 95%.

From 1993 to 2006 I worked on a 150,000 acre cow calf outfit in Idaho, starting as a cowboy and working up to manager. This was an absentee owner situation so I handled everything involved in running a large ranch.

Following is a list of my duties and accomplishments while working there:

Maintained and repaired ranch houses, outbuildings, multiple water systems, ranch equipment, machinery, pens corrals and fences.

Responsible for herd health, vaccination and doctoring of 1300 mother cows, 250 replacement heifers and 70 bulls.

Wintered cows on two separate ranches successfully range wintering on one and feeding on the other.

Range calved 200 heifers annually

Was instrumental in solving ranches historical heifer calving problems, went from:

75% live calf crop to 95%

75% breed back rate to 96%

25 Cesareans annually to zero.

Responsible for culling cows and picking replacement heifers.

Organized year around pasture rotation on operation which involved moving cattle in big country and rough terrain.

Developed successful protein and mineral supplement, which along with improved pasture rotation cut feed costs in half.

Marketed cattle, utilizing local sale yards buyers and internet auctions.

Processed BLM, Forest Service, State of Idaho, and private leases, including billing and actual lease permits.

Purchased all ranch supplies, maintaining effective inventory control.

Drove tractor trailer to transport livestock, hay, and equipment. (CDL Qualified)

Coordinated activities including, brandings, working cattle, and round ups.

Supervised up to six employees, scheduled work hours, and determined salaries.

Managed ranch horses, including training, shoeing, general health maintenance, and buying and selling.
