It is a job with the State Historical Society of North Dakota. The site is located on land once owned by the Marquis de Mores. The Marquis was a cattle raiser and meat processor. Summary of Work The Chateau team works together to ensure a pristine experience for every visitor through excellent interpretation and efficient maintenance work. We hope you can join us in this endeavor! Job Duration: Flexible! April/May through September. Weekly work hours 20-40 preferred, hours subject to negotiation. The historical interpreter will execute their responsibilities with a positive attitude, neat appearance, and enthusiasm. The successful applicant will: * Actively listen to visitors, answer their questions, welcome and orient them, lead hands-on activities, assist with special events, and participate in roving and stationed interpretation. * Interpret site history enjoyably and accurately, making good use of research, training, appropriate language and hands-on skills. * Assess and provide for visitors’ special needs, such as appropriate services for the elderly, handicapped, and foreign visitors. * Provide excellent customer service. * Assist with store operations that includes keeping merchandise neatly displayed and dusted, keeping track of inventory, and operating and reconciling the cash register, while following policies and procedures. * Clean and tidy facilities including work areas, public areas, and bathrooms. Perform other light maintenance tasks which might include watering and weeding garden spaces, dusting, and emptying trash receptacles. * Familiarize visitors with the State Historical Society mission and its other state historic sites. Minimum Qualifications * Must be at least 16 years old. * Ability to communicate with groups and individuals of diverse ages, interests, and perspectives, using appropriate language and hands-on skills. * Ability to learn site history. * Ability to work flexible work hours and weekends. * Ability to accurately complete required forms such as timesheets, till counts, etc. * Self-motivated All applicants are responsible for their own housing.
