This is a full-time job, located in Melba, Idaho. The Pen rider position is responsible for detection, diagnosis and safe handling of sick and injured cattle. Riding assigned pens daily Being accountable for cattle health in assigned pens by detecting sick or injured cattle Sorting cattle including shipping/receiving, strays out of pens and mixed pens Cattle moves within the feed yard Gathering loose cattle and taking them to their appropriate pens Checking water tanks to ensure they are functioning Reporting general pen maintenance/ problematic pens with manager Calling in mortalities and animals for euthanasia to manager Ensuring holding pens are emptied daily General care for your horse (s) (vaccinating, feeding) Maintain and cleaning your area i.e. tack, horse stall, water tank, hay feeder with in the facility Staying current with all required trainings Processing cattle Ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications: Cattle handling knowledge and experience Intermediate to advanced horsemanship skills Knowledge of sick or injured cattle, including basic animal health diagnosis Punctual Must be team- oriented Effective verbal communication skills Feedlot, sale barn or ranch experience is preferred Beef Quality Assurance experience or able to maintain a certificate Commitment to safety and quality culture Position requires: Individual must be able to work holidays, extended hours and weekends Individual must be able to work in extreme weather conditions Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally.
