Description:
Central Texas cattle company is seeking a skilled and experienced Ranch Hand/Cowboy to join our team. This unique position offers competitive salary, paid time off (PTO), as well as on-site housing. (5 years minimum ranch/cattle experience required)

 

This horseback position requires a skilled ranch hand to help care for our herd of cattle (90% cows and yearlings 10%). Daily duties include checking cattle for sickness, maintaining pastures, etc. The ideal candidate will have strong horsemanship skills and a passion for the ranching lifestyle. (Position will tend to average 20% horseback)

 

Responsibilities:

* Daily Cattle Care: Tend to and look after cattle, ensuring adequate water, feed, and hay. Monitor pasture conditions, mineral levels, and head counts.

* Animal Health: Process cattle regularly, administer treatments to sick animals, and implement effective health protocols to maintain herd health and profitability.

* Cattle Handling: Pen and ship cattle as needed, often multiple times per week.

* Infrastructure Maintenance: Maintain and repair fences, pens, water systems, cattle covers, and other ranch structures.

* Effective Communication: Communicate clearly and efficiently with the ranch manager and coworkers to ensure smooth operations.

 

Qualifications:

* Essential Skills:

* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

* Proven horsemanship skills

* Proficiency in roping, loading, tying, and doctoring cattle

* General ranch veterinary knowledge.

* Experience in efficient cattle gathering, especially in challenging conditions

* Basic mechanical skills, including fencing, welding, plumbing, carpentry, and equipment operation

 

Additional Requirements:

* Horse Ownership: Candidates must personally own 2-3 suitable horses

 

Please note: Applicants must be able to demonstrate their roping skills during the interview process.
