Description:
Rural cattle ranch in Central Montana is seeking a long term candidate that is independent, reliable, honest, detail oriented, and passionate about ranching. This is a unique opportunity for someone who already has some experience and maturity to step directly into a higher responsibility role. Extensive experience is not required as training can be provided, however, the candidate must have a willingness and desire to learn and the basic fundamentals of ranch operations.



Duties will include, but are not limited to, herd health, calving, haying, feeding, general maintenance of equipment and stock tanks, moving cattle, etc. The ranch is expansive and very low-input. For this reason, it is crucial that the candidate be able to fulfill their tasks independently without the need for constant directions, instructions, baby-sitting or micromanaging. It is also crucial that the individual be detail oriented, a problem solver, and take initiative (ie if they notice cows out, they get them back in and fix the fence without being asked or told to). This will allow the candidate and the manager to divide and conquer different jobs on the ranch (ie, the candidate might be taking mineral out and checking stock tanks, while the manager is doing herd health on a different part of the ranch or vice versa). No job is below the manager and this is not a peon position, but instead more of a shared responsibility role. The work load will not be unreasonable, however it is a ranching job and full days are expected. Some days will also require early mornings and/or working later into the evening, but overall the work-life balance is realistic.



The ranch is located an hour and a half from groceries and city amenities, so the candidate must be willing and able to live in a rural setting. The ranch operates on a balance of tradition and progressive practices. A holistic mindset is appreciated. The ranch utilizes both horses and four wheelers at various times and good stockmanship and the ability to read and understand cattle is important. This is not strictly a horseback position.



Housing is provided, a work truck for on ranch use, and beef. Additional benefits may be available for the right candidate.
