This person will report to the Cow Boss/Livestock Manager and be involved in the day-to-day cow work, as well as maintaining water sources and fencing. With a large elk herd on the ranch, fencing may be extensive at certain times of the year. This person will help with calving outdoors, cattle moves, branding, weaning, putting out mineral supplement, feeding cattle, maintaining and building fences, maintaining and building water improvements. Position Requirements: • A minimum of 3 years of livestock experience – 6 months minimum cow/calf. • Experience in and willingness to use minimal stress animal handling techniques • Exhibit good horsemanship skills and the ability to shoe own string of horses. • Maintaining a positive attitude, and the ability and willingness to take direction from supervisors happily. • Ability to work as part of a crew or alone as the task dictates. • Willingness to learn and embrace our system and ranching concepts. • Meat goat experience not required, but a plus. • Valid drivers license with no DUI’s in past 5 years. Must be found to be insurable to drive company vehicles. Position Responsibilities: • Participate in day-to-day activities on the Ranch, including – moving cattle; riding for health; putting out mineral; maintaining fences, corrals, and water improvements; (significant time horseback) parties, brandings and get togethers. • Working efficiently to get work done in a safe and timely manner. • No drama • Taking care of personal horses. Keeping horses shod and in usable condition. • Driving Clydesdales pulling feeding sled and wagon. • Taking care of your ranch home, yard, stalls and horses. • Taking care of your ranch provided vehicles, keeping them clean inside and out, checking fluids, and communicating immediately to shop with any issues. Compensation and Benefits: • Beginning salary of $42,000/year ($3,500/month) • Insurance for employee and their family, available after 90 days of full-time employment (you pay part). • 2 weeks paid vacation per year, accrued per pay period (timing to be worked out with individual supervisor). • Eligibility to participate in employer sponsored 401k after 1 month. Also, employer paid retirement savings plan. Employees can contribute any amount they choose to 401k. • Housing stipend, you pay small amount plus utilities. Nice places on the ranch. • Ability to keep some personal horses as approved by Cow Boss – no studs or foals. • Ranch pickup and trailer, and ATV for ranch use. • Dogs are allowed, as long as well mannered, to be used at the discretion of the Livestock Manager.
