Murphy is that gelding that is always happy to see you! He meets you at the gate with a willing attitude and the sweetest personality. Murphy’s quiet mind and gentle nature is the thing that stands out the most to us about him. He has the purest of souls and you can rely on him to be gentle, quiet and calm always in all situations.

Murphy is youth and adult approved with 10’s across the board! Murphy

has been a perfect mount for our kiddos ages 6-17 to use on the ranch and in the stockyards this summer and fall. No matter the job at hand on any given day there is no doubt he will keep them safe and stay gentle. He is just as quiet in the tight spots and commotion of the stockyards as he is out in the pasture gathering. Then there’s the play after work of course riding bareback through the pond to cool off. Murphy is a gelding that is absolutely anybody safe.

Though Murphy lives up to his name with the kids he is adult approved too! We have used him to flag ropings as well as on the ranch. His strongest attributes on the ranch are light ranch work chores like checking fence, prowling cattle and gathering. He is also good to sort on in the pens! He has quickly became a number one choice for the kids and other jobs on our place. Murphy is a gelding that you love to keep around for when friends or family come to visit because you know he will always take care of them.

When I say Murphy is quiet and gentle I mean he is as quiet and gentle as you’ll find one .One of the reasons he is a go to for the job of flagging ropings for us is because he doesn’t get worked up with the horses and cattle running by, he will stand quietly in one spot for long periods of time, he is not bothered by the rodeo arena atmosphere.

Murphy’s exposure on the ranch, in the stockyards and in the rodeo arena make him an ideal candidate for a solid and safe trail partner. Though our trail riding is usually done in the form of ranch work Murphy sees all of the same things that he would just enjoying a trail ride. When working on the ranch he is asked to cross water, pick his way through rough or boggy patches, tolerate vines or tall grass around his feet and tickling his belly. He stays sure footed and calm.The gentle and sane minded nature that is created by the commotion of the stockyards and the rodeo arena creates a horse that isn’t spooky and is very tolerant. Therefore he is not spooky if you jump a deer or another form of wildlife out of the bushes. He is also accustomed to riding out alone while making big circles to gather cattle. Murphy has been used by our 17 yr old to daughter to start unruly colts off of and he takes it all with patience and a willing attitude.

All of the attributes that make a horse pleasant to be around and handle are as equally intact as his demeanor is. Murphy is a true gentleman to handle on the ground also, with even the smallest rider.He is easy to catch in the pasture, isn’t aggressive with other horses, trailers well, ties quietly etc. He is well mannered 365 days of the year .He is currently shod as many of the places we go to work cattle are rocky, but he has a good foot and can go barefoot if you wish. His current diet is free choice alfalfa and he is an easy keeper. He has no maintenance requirements or special needs in any form. He is completely sound and healthy.
