He was previously used as a ranch horse (has herded cows, was packed-on in the mountains and has been branded on) but has also had some training with the Clinton Anderson training method. I have been herding cattle on him recently – he definitely has some cow sense. He has completed the fundamentals, intermediate, and some advanced groundwork of the Clinton Anderson program. He has completed the fundamentals riding and is about halfway through the intermediate riding. Because of his training, he is very well-mannered on the ground. You can back him up, yield his forequarters, and lower his head off of your finger-tips. You can also side-pass him on the ground (as well as in the saddle). He has been desensitized in a variety of ways throughout his training – I’ve started desensitizing him to the rope. He has a lot of expression and personality. He is a deep thinker – he learns best if he has periods throughout the session to think about what you are teaching him. He does have Doc Bar blood from the dam’s side.
