Description:
“Jack,” is a 10yo ranch gelding for sale. He is of Two Eyed Jack / Mr Baron Bell lineage and was bred by the late Jake Parker, previous -B Ranch Manager in Oklahoma.

Jack was started by Obbie Scholm in Canyon, TX for 120 days as a 3yo and has been ridden off and on for ranch work ever since. He’s done a little bit of everything from moving pairs, riding fence, sort, drag, and gather cattle out of some rough country in TX, NM, and OK, as well as ride pens in a Kansas Feedyard. He’s not exceptionally talented at any one thing, but he is dependable enough to do a lot of different things. He’s better at tracking one than he is sorting or cutting one out. He’ll pin ears and get after a calf and isn’t afraid to bite tail when you’re trailing cattle. He’s not what I’d call a kid horse, but I’m sure a little older or handy kid could ride him and get along well if he was being ridden consistently enough. He’s friendly - the kind to nicker and meet you at the gate. Easy to catch, easy to load. Good about his feet, ears, etc.

The ugly thing about this horse is his back. It’s never given me any trouble, and he’s always been sound, but he was born with an extra vertebra in his spine (according to 2 different vets, a chiropractor, and a farrier with an opinion). I’ve been told by the vet, “if it doesn’t bother him, don’t worry about it,” and it hasn’t so far. He said you can give injections in the spine, just as you would on hocks, should it ever become a bother. Chiropractor, Mark Stewart, notes were similar - “it is what it is as far as him being born with an extra vertebrae, and if it hasn’t bothered the horse, then he wouldn’t worry about it.. he’s seen three other horses with the same thing - a couple ran barrels and one was a bull doggin horse, and they went on like normal without issue outside of normal maintenance or saddle pad fitting.” I weigh 135# and haven’t had an issue, but I can’t attest to him being ridden by a much larger person.

I would price him in the $5,500-7,000 range if not for the looks of his back. Only thinking about selling him because I have a few too many young horses coming up that need more time.

Located between Perryton/Canadian, TX
