Ranch Hand

Cross I Cattle Company, located in northeast Colorado is looking for an full-time, honest, hard-working and capable ranch hand, who is loyal and ready to pursue excellence. We are looking for a Christian with character and a code of ethics...someone we can trust with our property, livestock, and livelihood.

We are a 100+ year generational family ranch. We currently run 300-350 commercial cows on private and leased ground, have a small backgrounding lot, run a dozen quarter horse broodmares, and put up our own hay. We are a traditional outfit in the sense that every livestock job that should be done horseback, is done that way. That being said, this is not a riding job as there are many ranching projects that are more efficient with an ATV or pickup.

Family is our priority, and we’re stretched too thin to be able to pursue our additional goals and provide excellent time with our children. We home educate our own kids and another like-minded family would be a good fit. Our hope is to be able to have the right kind of man to step in and help with the day-to-day tasks as well as the higher pressure and time sensitive seasonal aspects of ranch life.

Expectations of Employee

Hardworking, initiative to find the next task to do without being asked, self-starter, timeliness, professionalism, positive attitude, seek to improve yourself and the company, willingness to learn, high moral character.

You need to be able to out work my wife.

We are looking for a well-rounded ranch hand. We need someone with experience who knows how to perform the following ranch duties:

Checking health on livestock

Feeding

Putting up hay

Irrigation

Maintaining fence

Calving

Welding

Operating, maintaining and repairing equipment

Vehicle & grounds maintenance

And more...like scooping poop.

Great days, and some really crummy moments. We’d be lying if we said it was all roses.

Work Schedule

Generally regularly scheduled hours (50-400… you know ranching…), but early mornings and late evenings come with the territory during certain seasons.

Weekend schedule would be developed to share duties with owners and also allow everyone some planned time off.

As we stated, we are family oriented. There are significant family events that should be prioritized for time off. Communication is key.

Compensation

Based on experience as contractor labor

Possibility of housing

Vacation time is negotiable and on a case-by-case basis.
