Description:
Searching For A Longterm Position on a Ranch

I’m looking for a longterm position on a ranch. We’ve been blessed to work on ranches for the last 15 years. Our kids love this way of life just as much as we do.

My positions have been: Cowboy, cowboss, ranch manager, assistant ranch manager, feedlot cowboy, range rider, herdsmen, and ranch hand. I’ve enjoyed all of them but prefer cowboss/ cowboy.

Experience/ Skills

-Roping, pasture doctoring (with a partner or alone), riding confidently in rough terrain, sorting, moving cattle, shoeing horses, starting colts, working with project horses, and finishing ranch horses. I try to be as low stress on the cattle as possible and use different roping shots and techniques to avoid running cattle whenever possible. Not afraid to get up and go when needed though.

-Low stress cattle handling, knowledge of various drugs and doctoring techniques, giving shots, branding, running a chute and corral work, calving cows and first time heifers, branding (roping and calf table), monitoring herd health, nutrition, feeding, watering, breeding protocols, developing bulls and replacement heifers, detailed record keeping and overall herd management.

-Safely and confidently haul trailers, operate tractors, running heavy equipment, water developments, haying, build and repair fence, pasture management, and overall upkeep of the ranch and livestock.

My wife likes to help out when she’s able to, she enjoys doctoring, note taking and record keeping during cattle work and helping anyway she can. My wife and kids also love to raise up bottle calves. Our kids have ridden on a lot of pushes moving cows, they bring cattle up during corral work, push calves through the chute for branding, done some roping for branding and doctoring, help fence, clean stalls, and pretty much anything they can do to help when it’s safe and appropriate to do so.

We’d like to be in Montana if possible but would consider Idaho and Wyoming. We have some good horses and dogs.

I realize that no two ranches run exactly the same way, I’m always striving to learn more and further my abilities and knowledge. Our hope is to find a ranch that is family friendly as we want to continue to give our children the opportunity to enjoy ranch life. We’d like to be somewhere long term. I’m happy to send a resume and references. Please email us at mtranchcrew@gmail.com
