Some feeding with purchased hay; protein barrels put out in winter pastures and caking for 45 days of the 2 and 3 year old pairs. No irrigation or farming except for cleaning of corrals and spreading manure on nearby pasture ground. Live water consists of 3 creeks and 6 wells with 132,000 feet of water pipelines and numerous springs. Ranch units consisting of one winter unit of 30,000+/- acres, spring/fall country with 15,000 acres and summer country of 9,000+/- acres; elevation ranges from 5,000 feet to 7,500 feet. This is a family owned operation consisting of 2 generations who are currently working on the ranch. General duties: work closely with the owner/operators of the ranch. Basic ranching skills needed along with some knowledge of equipment, plumbing, minor electrical, carpentry and automotive maintenance. The ranch operates with older trucks and backhoe, cat, skidsteer and tractors and several livestock trailers. Hands-on calving only done with first calf heifers. Branding is done in small groups using a hydraulic calf table. Livestock movement is done horseback; fencing maintenance is mostly done using side by sides or a 4 wheeler. There are 38 pastures and 3 major sets of corrals to maintain. Corrals are constructed of continuous fencing. Portable corrals and portable tub is used for preconditioning calves depending on the pasture rotation that particular year. Work duties consisting of active participation and/or supervising: Pasture and fence maintenance Corral maintenance Facility, infrastructure and equipment maintenance Pipeline maintenance; consisting of starting and stopping water delivery of lines, fixing leaks, finding leaks and fixing tire tanks on pipelines Oversee pasture and rangeland management Coordinate management of and spraying of weeds Help with caretaking of ranch horses Record keeping of pasture usage, with livestock numbers and grazing days Genetics and breeding of seed stock herd which produces bulls for ranch breeding using Salers/Angus composite bulls Doctoring and herd health maintenance Knowledge of supplements and pasture rotation Housing, utilities and bonus all dependent on level of experience.
