T.J. Holmes, nephew of William Holmes (Nevada City,) made saddles in Cheyenne Wyoming 1953-1984. This example is located in Oklahoma City.



This is a rare collectable saddle made by the late Master saddlemaker T.J. Holmes . The saddle is hand made with wonderful tooling.This saddle has been used but well taken care of and is so well made it will last for many more years of riding or displaying. It is a very comfortable saddle. You do not see Mr. T.J. Homes saddles come up for sale very often. I did see one of his trophy saddles made for the 1955 Cheyenne Frontier Days. It was won by the Hall of Fame Bareback Champion Edward Henry (Edd Akridge) born in Pampa, Texas in 1929. It sold for $ 7,900. I do not know who won this saddle but I believe it also was a trophy saddle. Another e-bayer suggested I contact Doug Krause for info. Doug did a 4 year apprenticeship under master saddlemaker T. J. Holmes. Then purchased T. J. Holme’s shop after he passed away. Doug also purchased the mane hair rope factory belonging to Bob Mills, better known as "Blind Bob," Doug has been awarded Best of Show at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada in 1998 and the Will Rogers Award--Hitcher/Braider of the Year, Academy of Western Artists, 2001 and also contracted to make a saddle for a Smithsonian Exhibit. Mr. T.J. Holmes would be proud of Doug. Thank you for looking and God bless the trails your ride.
