Description:
4L Grazing is seeking a full- time production foreman and herdsman to join our small team in the beautiful Flint Hills of Southeastern Kansas. This individual will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and adapting production plans that are in alignment with targets and guidelines set in place by the Operation Manager.

4L Grazing enhances the capture of solar energy through effective adaptive multi- paddock grazing. We harvest this energy with various classes of stocker cattle that we can upgrade through effective backgrounding, production, and marketing. We focus our attention and skills on three adaptable enterprises. We manage grass stockers for their flexibility and to take advantage of our high-quality spring grasses. We provide pasture and care to dry cows in the wintertime to provide a service to other ranchers looking for a cost-effective wintering program and allow us to utilize coarse, low quality forage. And lastly, we take advantage of our geographic location and skill sets to upgrade discounted livestock through good marketing and quality care and stockmanship.



Required Qualifications:

1. Small team leadership skills.

2. Observant and data oriented

3. Familiarity and experience with effective stockmanship.

4. Knowledge and experience with livestock health protocols.

5. Managing adaptive- multi paddock grazing

6. Basic mechanical skills



Preferred Qualifications:

1. Stock dog experience.

2. Advanced stockmanship skills

3. Advanced grazing management skills.

4. Experience with backgrounding/ weaning purchased calves.

5. Practical ranch horsemanship/ pasture roping



This is a full- time permanent position with a competitive compensation package that includes housing and paid time off. Total compensation value will range from $60,000- $70,000+/ year depending on experience. We also offer performance-based incentive pay for role- specific and business- wide outcomes. Qualified individuals must fit the culture of the ranch team who require people that actively participate in improving the triple bottom line of economics, ecology and quality of life. A strong desire to help improve current business systems through observation, record keeping, and direct feedback will go a long way to making this an awarding career path for the selected individual.

Much of the work will be completed on an individual level in isolated settings. Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs. and complete essential work tasks ( ~1/2 day) every other weekend. Horses are mostly used when they are deemed necessary to produce the desired outcome and do not take away from the other responsibilities the team members have, they are important but not central to our business.
