Not only is this mare cute as can be, she’s really handy and broke too. Nellie is a flashy 12 year old paint mare, 14.3 hh and close to 1100 pounds with plenty of bone and a good size foot. She came off of a sheep and goat ranch in Ozona, and has very tough feet that don’t require shoes. Nellie is gentle and sweet natured, not mare-ish at all. She has roped and sorted sheep, goats and cattle, and knows what it means to put in a full days work. She has been taught to travel out and can cover a lot of ground, and is a blast to ride out on trails. Nellie is sure footed and will go up, over or through anything you point her at, and isn’t bothered by anything she comes across. She will cross water, go through thick brush, carry a flag, ride bareback, and you don’t have to worry about her bucking, rearing, biting, kicking, or taking off on you. Nellie has an excellent one handed neck rein, a very smooth trot and rocking horse lope, and a good stop. She will ride out by herself or with other horses, is happily leading or following, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. Nellie is sound and clean legged, and has the mind and athletic ability to do just about anything you want her to do. We recently took her up to a local Saturday night rodeo and I led my son around the barrels on her. It was her first time ever in that arena and the lights, sounds, and all the commotion did not bother her at all. Nellie is solid and willing, and would make a fun little playday or breakaway horse for an experienced youth. She has also been ridden down the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it.
