Description:
HP Livestock is looking for a Grass Farm Manager for a calf/yearling cattle operation located in Burlington, Wyoming. HP Livestock has three locations, two outside of Cody, Wy and one in Burlington, Wy. The position will be responsible for supporting a large-scale irrigated pasture cattle operation with focus on growing forage and operating/maintaining all associated ranch equipment/infrastructure. Experience with and maintaining heavy equipment, pivot operation, and cattle is a strong plus. We strive to practice holistic management. If you have an interest in these principles, that would be a plus. Anyone with a strong interest or passion in ranching/farming is encouraged to apply. We are more than willing to train an interested and able person.

HP Livestock is a rapidly growing ranch/farm operation looking for an individual who is willing and eager to learn, hard-working, handy, safety-oriented, and a self-starter. This individual should be able to take initiative as part of a fast-growing operation. Our operation draws on progressive soil, grass, and cattle management principles from Bud Williams, Jim Gerrish, Gabe Brown and others to optimize performance. We are looking for an individual who is focused on excellence and constant improvement in irrigation, equipment, and cattle management.

Housing provided (utility costs paid by ranch). Housing can easily accommodate single or married persons.

This is a full-time position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operate and maintain irrigation systems

• Build new irrigation infrastructure

• Maintain electric fence system. (The operation has a five strand barbed wire perimeter fence but has a network of permanent electric fences that run throughout interior of the ranch.)

• Operate heavy equipment for infrastructure improvement projects. Infrastructure projects include, but are not limited to, property fencing, stock water development pipelines, ponds, land clearing and pivot irrigation installation

• Optimize forage production on the farm by planting/establishing new stands of warm/cool season perineal and annual forages that will be harvested by cattle. (This is not a operation focused on traditional crop production, but we do plant some forage crops to be grazed.)

• Work as part of a team to background and feed cattle in a small-scale feedlot

• Manage/carry out the feed delivery to cattle with feed trucks during the winter months

• Provide ideas/concepts and collaborate with owner for efficient backgrounding of cattle feeding operation

• Perform all aspects of hauling in feed commodities including hay, straw, and corn silage as well as keep track of feed inventory. (We do not put up any of our own feed. We purchase all commodities from local farms)

• Maintain/oversee all heavy equipment including loader, tractor, feed wagon, feed truck, seed drill, semi-truck and various other equipment

• Carry out welding, corral building and maintenance projects

REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid Drivers License

• Equipment operating ability (Feed truck, Skid steer, Loader, Excavator, Dozer) or willingness to learn.

• Welding/fabrication experience is a very strong plus.

• Cattle experience a strong plus.

• Must be willing to learn new soil management techniques and associated irrigation practices.

• Able to move/lift/maneuver up to 50 lbs.

We are looking for a career-oriented individual who is interested in a long-term position. An individual who wants to work, learn and grow with us. Burlington, Wyoming is a quiet and friendly, family-oriented ranching/farming community with fantastic schools. The operation is located 5 minutes out of town.
