I say this as once measured 15.2 by vet and lastly just under 16 hands. Likely due to having better foot care and shoes. Pros: He is pretty and can move out well. w/t/c Picks up leads, side pass, haunch, forehand, gates and has a good solid stop Good for farrier and vet Stands great to get on and will come to you for mounting. Loads in trailer well Has not spooked at all while riding. Picks up feet (occasionally needs an extra nudge) Saddles well Eats and drinks well. Have not had him long however seems to be an easy keeper. Seems to do well with his neighbors and other horses. Passed his last vet check and no injuries or illnesses under my care. Has ranched/roped off of Seems to pick up on things quick and appears wants to please. Cons: He can be jumpy on the ground while trying to catch however that has improved significantly over the last couple months here. Does not like his ears touched although is allowing me to some. Can bridle but does best if can undo the bridle so as not to pull over ears. Has pulled back when tied at trailer when approached towards the front a couple times. He can be a bit lazy at times riding. Bucked one time with me. I am not sure why that day however, he hasn’t done it again. He does have some scars that he came with. He is not very affectionate, but appears to be warming up and tolerates my shenanigans however, doubt he will ever be an “in your pocket” guy. He is not for a beginner, but could very likely do well with an intermediate and above. I was told that he did a lot of ranch work. Previous owner used him for roping/Heading (HS rider and adult). Videos showed him doing well in the box and leaving but was told they did not use a barrier. I could see him going back to that or being in ranch riding/trail or ?? Was bought for my beginner husband who says I need to find him something more beginner friendly or he gives up….. and I really would like to share this hobby with him. So, Buck is looking for a new field or barn that will love him for all his greatness and continue to support him through some of his quirks.
