Honest, punctual, takes work seriously. Spent the last year with winter break, working on a family ranch where we ran about 700 head in the mountains for the summer, put up our own hay, moved back to lower elevations for the winter, and calved from Feb-May. This was an internship position where I worked as a general hand for less pay in return for housing and the opportunity to apprentice with a professional boss and crew, to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible...and I did learn a lot. Typical work days were 12-14 hours with an hour for lunch when possible. A lotta days weren’t typical. Ideal position would be an entry level hand on a hard working family ranch. My boss would need to be willing to continue my training as I’m green and still have a lot to learn. In return, I will work for a LOW WAGE/housing and will be loyal to you and your outfit. I’d like to get more time/training on horseback but I’m not looking for a cowboy job until I get more riding experience. I’m happy to help with whatever you need done, I enjoy working with others or on my own. I’m kind of quiet at first but warm up to folks when I feel they can be trusted. I’m non-smoking/mainly non-drinking (social drink now and then), good manners, and appreciate other honest folks with a traditional background. I’d like to find a long-term position with a family that has positive energy and believes in mutual respect. I’m able to admit how much I don’t know but will always try my best and listen to those who have the experience. My duties/experience included: IRRIGATION/HAY -Pivots, wheel lines 2x/day, flood, some hand lines -Stacking bales with loader -Minor work on ditch banks -Burning ditches -Pitching ditches -Poisoning varmints CATTLE -Feed/water horses, cows, feed bottle calves -Sorting pairs on horseback -Gathering/trailing on horseback -Assisted with branding: Nordfork and Head/Heel, vax, band, eartag/mark, etc... -Assisted with identifying sick cattle/doctoring: flanking, pills, injections, drench, etc... -Assisted with pregnancy checking -Assisted with calving and after care: paste, iodine, warming, tagging, etc... -Assisted with loading and shipping cattle -Completed 12-day fall round-up on horseback -Put out salt and mineral, check water troughs -General corral/chute work GENERAL -Some fence work (post holes, post pounding, staples, clips, stretch) -Electric fence/hotwire - set up and break down as needed -General ranch upkeep and maintenance -Clearing brush/weed whacking/clearing trails -Taking down invasive species of trees/limbs with chainsaw -Burning trash/debris -Poisoning weeds -Fueling equipment/cleaning glass/checking fluids/airing tires, etc... -Cleaning stalls *Experience working in summer heat and winter cold *Rural living is OK, reliable pick-up, no kids *Basic ability to communicate in broken Spanish If my experience suits your needs I’d be really happy to talk and give you a better idea of my strengths and also areas I want/need to develop.
