Short, thick and really sweet! At nine years old, he is a “been there, done that” kind of horse that has earned an honest living every single day of his adult life. Ike has been a ranch slave: Sorting, gathering, pairing out, doctoring and branding. Ike is a very solid ranch horse regardless of the job you need for him to handle. He is also a seasoned head horse in the arena. Ike has plenty of run, but you’ll only know this if you ask him for it. He is quiet in the box and runs to the hip with ease and idles back right there to give you a good shot every time. He is a pretty good heel horse as well, if that is where you prefer to be. Ike can also make a barrel pattern look easy, without getting hot or worked up about going faster when asked. Ike is a peaceful horse in the pasture with other horses. He is also neat in the stall, which any good stall cleaner will tell you, is something to be truly grateful for! Our farrier says, Ike is the easiest horse to shoe, standing rock solid and virtually holding his leg up to be worked on! He is also a perfect gentleman, standing tied quietly for grooming, saddling and bridling. Of course, he loads and hauls perfectly! Ike stands SO quietly on the trailer, you will actually want to double check to make sure you remembered to load him!! If your bucket list includes seeing big, rough country from the back of a horse — you couldn’t choose a better horse than Ike! Deep water, rocky slopes, steep hillsides or squishy mud… It does not matter! Ike has already navigated all of these challenges in his lifetime, and will go forward with ease and without question. He is courageous on the trail and will be steadfast and trustworthy — so you can feel safe and enjoy the scenery! Ike comes by his barn name naturally, with Driftwood Ike on his papers. Any good ranch cowboy will tell you — these are horses to ride the river with! It’s just an added bonus that Ike is easy on the eyes! That smutty buckskin color is unique and rich like dark caramel in the sun! Ike’s conformation is also just what you want… He has good hard hooves and solid bone that will keep him sound for many years to come.
