Description:
We have an opportunity for a leadership-minded individual to work within our Pen Checking team at the South Lot in Broken Bow, Nebraska. The individual in this position will oversee the coordination of the pen riding responsibilities, while also promoting teamwork and communication.







This person will be responsible for:







Supervising, coordinating, and delegating the Pen Checking personnel and operations, maintaining efficiency of personnel to maximize production goals.



Managing daily work schedule within the pen checking area.



Communicating with multiple areas to ensure effective collaboration and efficiency.



Ensuring the daily operations in Pen Checking are conducted accurately and consistently in accordance to SOP and quality standards.



Supporting and ensuring daily protocols are being followed.



Overseeing BQA/AQA guidelines are being followed by the team.



Ensuring cattle are being diagnosed properly and are handled according to pen checking guidelines.



Monitoring and maintaining daily animal health reports, while providing feedback to pen checking personnel.



Communicating problematic pens with management immediately.



Supporting the animal health team through chronic pen management.



Reporting vet pen and general pen maintenance to proper teams.



Ensuring research CCP’s (trial protocols) are being followed by the team.



Communication and Leadership:



Leading shift startup meetings.



Representing the pen checking team at Monday morning safety meeting.



Communicating and supporting company strategies and changes.



Training and developing new and current team members; while communicating progress and areas of opportunity to management.



Providing ongoing feedback and recognition to team by setting performance objectives and communicating throughout the year on progress.



Driving accountability by working with Org Development and management to facilitate conflict resolution, performance improvement, and corrective actions to the team.



Screening applicants through interview process and hiring applicable candidates.



Supporting onboarding pre-employment horse evaluations and diagnosis testing.



Working closely with all levels of the organization and promoting effective and positive relationships with other teams.



75% of time would be spent riding along with individuals or for individuals on their days off.



Assisting with budget development



Approving invoices for cost center expenditures.



Identifying continuous improvement opportunities to enhance company profitability through reduced expenses and/or increased revenue.



Assisting in other areas of cattle production including, but not limited to Cattle Logistics, Cattle Distribution, and East Lot.



Maintaining and providing cleanliness of the horse facilities.



Manage horse pasture agreements.



Staying current with all required trainings and SOP’s.



Ensuring team’s general care for horses, including proper number onsite (no less than 3, and no more than 4).







Ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:







One year of leadership experience.



Previous feedlot experience is required.



Intermediate to Advanced horsemanship skills.



Advanced knowledge of sick or injured cattle with basic understanding of industry animal health diagnosis.



Cattle handling knowledge and experience (Beef Quality Assurance).



Commitment to safety and quality culture.



Proven ability to use analytical techniques for problem solving, coordination, and decision making.



Driven, organized, action-oriented, and ability to multi-task.



Effective verbal and written communication skills.



High attention to detail.



Individual must be team-oriented.











This position requires:







Individual must provide, shoe, and maintain three (3) head of horses and pass ADAMS pre-employment horse evaluation and diagnosis test.



Individual must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.



Individual must be able to work extended hours and have the ability to work holidays and weekends as needed, as well as rotate through on-call weekends.



Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally. Sitting, lifting,/lowering, pushing/pulling, and reaching/handling/grasping frequently; standing, walking, carrying, bending, twisting, climbing, and crawling occasionally; stairs and kneeling/crouching rarely.







Compensation Details:







$23-$28 per hour



$550 per month horse pay for ongoing expenses + $1,500 horse reimbursement every other year
