Up for consideration is a good hog dog or any other large game dog, according to her squirrel trainer.



Registered, Female, 6 months old, 55 lbs,

Typical Howard Southern Black Mouth Cur



She has a lot of Oylers Shawnee Rebel and Odie in her, lots of Sand Ridge and Howard stock and 7 doses of Ladner’s Rambo and Dixie.

(But, she is NOthing like a Ladner BMC at all-- will probably be 80# full grown, has zero interests in squirrels, has an incredible nose, and when and if she gets onto something...like a possum walking across our back fence...she wants it down and done and shaken, not stirred, real well.)



Her name is Darla.



I love her dearly but the trainer at ’squirrel school’ says she is too protective of me and will never be trustworthy as my companion managing community gardens in the city-- just too many new people and dogs. Said that she’s not aggressive, but she is a protector, with all the grit and grind and absolutely everything that a good hog or larger game cur needs. She would also be a good loyal rural family and farm dog. If she’s met you even once you’re good, but new people get a growl and a new dog will get a nip on the nose with a ’back up’ growl.

I have never had even a close call of her biting or starting a dog fight at the dog park, but she will stand between my feet and growl when strangers and new dogs come up, but quickly settles and sits fine at my feet while we then talk. The trainer says she is a good dog and warms up quickly, but he just can’t foresee she would ever be a worry free dog when we retire in 2 years and take off in an RV-- she will likely always be protective and everyone we encounter on a weekly basis at a camp ground, and she will never have seen before or ever again!



She does fine with our 3 cats, but I don’t know if that includes all cats!

She has always been an indoor dog and always had the best food and health care.

It’s breaking my heart, but I need her to find a place where she can fulfill her purpose and do it well.



She is a syrup sweet loyal girl, but I understand she has a bloodline and purpose other than to be a city dog, so that’s what needs to happen.
