Caring for farm animals are part of this position. Job Description: Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest vegetables, fruits, and other crops. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting; weeding; thinning, or pruning crops; applying pesticides; or cleaning, grading, sorting, packing, and loading harvested products. May construct trellises, repair fences and farm building, or participate in irrigation activities. Other duties as required including but not limited to light housekeeping and errands. Necessary Skills/Knowledge: • Small engine mechanics/farm machinery use and repair • Farming techniques such as fertilizing, pest control, and soil amendments • Field Work such as operating machinery, tools, and equipment • Peach, Apple, Cherry and other fruit tree care and pruning • Repair and maintain fencing, irrigation pipes, and ponds • Mowing, weeding, and landscaping • Greenhouse (hoop house) maintenance and use • Planting and harvesting crops at regular intervals • Care, maintenance and feeding of small farm animals • Minor plumbing and electric repairs • Record keeping • Time Management • Task Prioritization • Dependable and responsive to direction Necessary Abilities: • Multi-limb coordination – The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. • Static Strength – The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects. • Manual Dexterity – The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble objects. • Trunk Strength – The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without “giving out” or fatiguing. • Arm-Hand Steadiness – The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your am and hand in one position. • Performing general physical activities – Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. • Getting information – Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources • Identifying objects, actions, and events – Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities and detecting changes in circumstances or events. • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates – Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, email or in person. • Dependability – Being reliable, on time and ready to work.
