If you are looking for a safe, gentle horse to use on the ranch or ride on trails, then take a look at Laredo. He is built like a big horse but with short legs, 13.3hh but stout enough that a man could ride him. Laredo came off of a ranch in south Texas, where he was used for all phases of ranch work, including sorting pairs, roping and doctoring cattle in the pasture, dragging calves to the fire, and checking fence. For a horse his size he can really pull, and he will not get you into a storm if you get your rope all tangled up like I do. He is GRADE, 15 years old but sound and healthy, and an easy keeper. Laredo has no bad habits, has never offered to buck, rear, bite, kick or take off, has good ground manners, is easy to catch, and very friendly. He is the same horse every time you ride him, quiet, dependable, and solid. He is not fancy or flashy but will not get you hurt. Laredo stands still for you to get on him, ground ties as good as any horse I’ve ever seen, and will only go as fast as you ask him to. He doesn’t want to be fast, but is not lazy and will trot and lope when you ask him to. He rides quietly on a loose rein, is very sure footed, and nothing scares him or spooks him. Laredo would be an excellent horse for a weekend rancher that wanted something safe to check cattle with, or even the grandkids to ride out on the ranch with grandpa and learn how to rope and work cattle. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and will go up, over or through anything you point him at. He can be ridden by himself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. He has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. Asking $6,500.
