Our operation produces a large number of fullblood Wagyu cattle both as seedstock for other producers as well as feeder cattle for our own meat sales business, Lone Mountain Wagyu. We regularly do embryo transfer and artificial insemination work, and maintain a large herd of both Wagyu cows and commercial cows for our embryo transfer program. Cattle are raised across the ranch as much as possible, but we also have a small feedlot for our weaned calves and cows during the AI and ET protocols.The position we are looking to fill will primarily assist the herdsmen with cattle work, and fill in with other tasks during down times or as needed. Housing and beef are included, all on-site ranch housing has been recently renovated, current housing availability is best suited for a single person or couple with one to two kids. No pets allowed in the houses, well mannered outdoor animals would be ok, no smoking in the housing either. The ranch is half way between Albuquerque and Santa Fe with all the amenities, both being about 45 minutes away, Edgewood is only 25 miles away with a Walmart and other convenience stores. We try to have weekends off other than feeding which is on a rotation with other employees as much as possible. Vacation time is available so long as we can work around the other employees schedules and the busy times with cow work. Being able to work with others on projects and take direction is a must, we have a lot of infrastructure improvement projects on the agenda which will require a team effort. This is in no way a traditional cowboying job or full time riding position. We all do a little bit of everything. We value initiative and input on how things could be done better, but we are not in need of another manager or boss, so must be willing to accomplish tasks as instructed. We have little tolerance for showing up late or no shows, when you are here we expect you to be reliable and accomplish what needs done. We use horses for cow work, and seek to be as low stress as possible in handling the livestock at all times. The ranch has a couple of horses available if needed but would supply feed and care for one or two personal horses if need be. This is a great opportunity for a young person wanting to gain some experience or improve their skills in the industry with a job that offers a wide variety of opportunities for learning. We are open to training and teaching the right candidate, but they must be open to learning and willing to work. Job Duties would include: Assisting in cow work: calving, moving, gathering, sorting etc. Feeding cows: we use a TMR mixer wagon and Tractor in the pens, and trucks with cake hoppers in the pasture when needed Fencing, water repair etc., all small jobs and tasks that keep a ranch running Required Candidate would need to have basic knowledge in horse and cattle handling, being able to saddle and ride a horse is a bare minimum must Able to lift 50+ lbs, stand and work long hours at a time when needed Clean Driving Record Preferred Knowledge in other aspects of livestock production is great but not required Experience with farm equipment; ie. tractors, skid steers etc would be plus Ability to build and repair fence, minor mechanic work and construction skills are an asset, as well as basic welding and cutting skills Send Resumes, Contact information and references to rio@lonemountaincattle.com Posted 01-31-22 5555 visitors have viewed this ad
