The primary operation of the ranch is yearling and two-year-old bison production of approximately 400- 800 head annually. The ranch utilizes intensively managed adaptive grazing practices with a focus on increased stock densities and short duration grazing events to achieve ecological and animal performance goals and improve soil health. Bison handling is frequent with a heavy focus on proper stockmanship using low stress handling techniques. Flood irrigation is the primary means of forage production across the ranch. The primary duties of the Ranch Foreman relate to leadership and execution of grazing and rangeland management, bison movement and processing, Irrigation duties and infrastructure development and maintenance. Employee will be directly responsible for irrigation management. Irrigation practices include flood irrigation of approximately 1,600 acres, and sprinkler (wheel lines and hand lines) of approximately 120 acres. The employee will also be involved in operation and maintenance of the ranch farm and construction equipment. Construction and maintenance of permanent fence and the employment of temporary electric fence are frequent tasks for the employee. The ability to safely use Horses, ATV’s and UTV’s to perform ranch work, including moving bison, is required. Ranch Foreman job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: • Work with the Ranch Manager to develop and implement Adaptive Intensively Managed Grazing System strategies and practices • Work with the Ranch Manager to implement a comprehensive grazing plan to meet objectives. • Work with the Ranch Manager on forage utilization monitoring, reporting of grazing activity. • Work with the Ranch Manager to oversee Bison production including handling and moving of the bison, preparation of pastures (fences, water systems, forage inventory) ahead of the grazing rotation and ranch wide as needed. • Develop and maintain fences, water sources, corrals, ranch buildings, and other ranch infrastructure • Move/Handle Bison in the pasture and corrals using low stress techniques on foot, ATV, UTV, or horseback. • Work with the Ranch Manager to develop and execute plans to improve irrigation infrastructure and maintenance. • Coordinate and execute flood and sprinkler irrigation duties of the ranch. • Work with the Ranch Manager to review and develop portions of the ranch budget as assigned. • Report monthly, the assigned grazing activity and range health to the Ranch Manager or his designate. • Install and maintain permanent and temporary fencing. • Use welder, plasma cutter, cutting torch, and other shop equipment safely. • Operate tractors, backhoe, feeding equipment. • Vaccinate livestock using syringes and hypodermic needles or other means. • Safely operate and maintain vehicles, tractors, and heavy equipment with various attachments. • Safely operate ATV and UTV. • Use chemicals to assist with weed control. • Participate in Ranch Safety Program. • Perform a variety of general ranch work duties including electrical, plumbing carpentry, and other maintenance of housing facilities and ranch property. • Other duties as assigned by the Ranch Manager. 4 bedroom 2 bath house provided with utilities and internet, Health Insurance, $401K, 2 weeks paid vacation.
