Head Wrangler/Stable Manager opportunity for someone interested in future Dude Ranch management or leadership position. Located in California just south of the Oregon border on the Klamath River. Over 5,000 acres and beautiful views. Relatively mild winters and shorter hot summers. R-Ranch Property Owners’ Association is looking. Also looking for maintenance and year round assistant wrangler. GENERAL SUMMARY:



The Head Wrangler/Stables Supervisor plans, implements, and oversees all activities and events in the stables area on a day-to-day basis at the R-Ranch. The role collaborates with various departments, owners and volunteers to ensure owners and guests experience the safest and most satisfying horse experience during their stay.



ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

•Communicates any changes or adjustments for a day or week to the RF.

•Ensures a monthly event schedule is posted at the Stables office and in the Accounting/HR office.

•Must wear/use proper attire and safety gear including long pants/jeans, western riding boots and company provided shirts whenever on duty. Employees must change out of their company shirts or turn them inside out when not on duty. The head wrangler may wear appropriate western attire as approved by the RF and Ranch Manger.

•Ensures every horse arriving has proper documentation and secures a colored picture of that horse and attaches it to the documentation and delivers it to HQ for the RF to review.

•Plans and implements, rides, activities and events throughout the Stables, Headquarters and Back Country trails.

•Works with Volunteer Coordinator to plan and execute the annual calendar of events. Coordinates with web services employee to publicize all upcoming calendared events in Stables.

•Facilitates and plans trail rides, arena rides and riding lessons and any other event or activity which might be assigned from time to time ensuring all funds collected are registered and accounted for.

•Communicates and coordinates with the Ranch Foreman for needed repairs and assisting in other departments as requested.

•Works with AP to collect documentation for the processing of 1099’s for vendors, service workers, farriers and other independent contractors.

•Works with Headquarters (HQ) to ensure all fees revenues are properly recorded and follows the procedure for money handling.

•Collaborates and coordinates with Volunteer Coordinator or RF to develop a volunteer pool for weekends, holidays, and special events.

•Ensures the entire Stables and queue pen areas are maintained, cleaned and safe for use.

•Responsible for ensuring all trash containers in the Stables areas are emptied.

•Handles and coordinates all requests for facility use by owners with the RF and office staff.

•Coordinates Stables use for holiday events and decorations.

•Ensures stalls are clean, horses fed and other animals as directed. Washes horses, clears pastures, repairs fences, operates irrigation systems as needed or directed.

•Other duties as assigned anywhere on the property by the RF or Ranch Manager.



ESSENTIAL SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

Positions supervised: Senior Wrangler, Wrangler, Wrangler-Seasonal, Wrangler-Seasonal-Special Events.

•Supervises the Stables staff including wranglers, stable hands, Owner and guest volunteers.

•Ensures all employees arrive promptly, ready to work, at the scheduled start times.

•Post and updates weekly staffing schedule.

•Confirms that staff and volunteers have a clear understanding and knowledge of the tasks they are performing.

•Conducts a weekly safety meeting with all Stables Staff and briefs each volunteer on safety at Stable including a hold harmless liability release. Volunteers are required to sign an acknowledgement of receiving a safety briefing and sheet.

•Monitors the staff for sobriety and a safe working condition plus ensures all staff, volunteers, and riders are wearing/using proper attire and safety gear.

•Communicates event staffing needs with the RF and volunteer coordinator.

•Act as liaison between management and stables staff and share relevant information with/between parties as appropriate.

•In coordination with RF and RM, participate in performance management of staff.



MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:



•Computer literate and able to use Microsoft Office and the digital workorder system currently in use by the company.

•Know how to curry, tack and saddle horses.

•Knowledge of Equine training, health and maintenance including the California Standards of Horse Care.

•Ability to explain and/or teach equine training and care to staff, volunteers and others.

•Ability to skillfully ride mountainous trails and roads which can be slippery when wet and have loose materials or downed trees and/or branches.

•Must be able to travel through forested areas with diverse plants including Poison Oak and Ivy.

•Must be CPR/First aid certified and have or acquire the Wilderness and Remote First Aid Certificate within nine (9) months.

•Demonstrated ability to handle emergencies and stressful situations.

•Experience transporting horses is required.

•Must be able to communicate well with staff, owners and guests.

•Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people.

•Must be able to diffuse tense situations through patient communications.

•Experience with equine first aid and treatments as directed by a veterinarian.

•Must possess attention to detail, time management, organization and follow up.

•Ability to use applications on phones and tablets.

•Can use Microsoft Office.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



•Minimum five (5) years in a leadership or supervisory position involving horse riding.

•Minimum three (3) years as a trail guide horse wrangler

•Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English.

•Required: valid drivers’ license for operation of motor vehicles on California roadways with expectation of acquiring a California driver’s license.
