Description:
This is a 70 year old ranch saddle that was built for my grandfather back in 1951. We have a Saddle Certificate of Authenticity for the saddle.

Tree: Improved Association

Seat: 14" (standard adult size for that time)

Swell: 14"

Rigging: Regular Double

Date Made: October 9, 1951

Saddle maker: Leonard Nichols

Price new: $259.90 which is over $3,000 in today’s dollars



Leonard Nichols was a saddle maker at Hamley’s Saddle shop in Pendleton Oregon for over 40 years. He made custom saddles for John Wayne, Ronald Regan and Gene Autry just to name a few.



My grandfather used the saddle on a daily basis while tending to his cattle operation. In addition, he rode in both the Benton County and Josephine County mounted posses, and he even rode it in the Philomath (Oregon) parade when he was 90 and received the award for oldest rider that year.



For a 70 yr old saddle, it is in good shape. There is a small tear in one fender but doesn’t affect it’s usability. Same with a very small one in the skirt.
