Description:
TITLE: Cow Herd Supervisor



POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide all care and management to a functioning cow/calf herd as well as be responsible for associated grazing lands, fences and water resources.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide daily watch and care to cow herds and bull battery. Numbers of animals in supervisors care can and do vary from one supervisor to another.

Record keeping for cattle production, enterprise accounting as well as labor and machinery hours is required.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Duties may include feeding, watering, herding, grazing, castrating, branding, weighing, catching, and loading animals. May maintain records on animals; examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; assist in birth deliveries; and administer medications, vaccinations, or insecticides as appropriate. May clean and maintain animal housing areas. Other duties may be assigned by Management as needed.



Clean and well maintained facilities, equipment and vehicles are required.



This employee is required to be in attendance during all critical times of the production stages of beef cattle including but not limited to: calving, weaning and severe weather events. This may or may not be limited to the normal 55 hour work week.



All beef employees are expected to be included in a rotation of being on call for around the clock emergencies. The typical rotation would be one week out of five.



WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Works closely with Beef Foreman, other Herd Supervisors, feedlot staff as well as Crop and Forestry employees.





QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 3 years experience working with cow/calf pairs, bulls and herd management.

Mechanical knowledge also helpful.
