Description:
We are a 650 mother cow operation that runs 1300 yearlings in the summer as well. We have our own horse breeding program with the end goal to produce top notch ranch horses. We are looking for someone who wants to assist us in managing our ranch. We are a tobacco, alcohol free workplace.

The following is a description of where we would like you to be after a period of skill development and a time to learn the culture and operations of Mickelsen Cattle. These skills are not expected to accompany you to your job, but an aptitude to learn them is expected.



Job Description:





• Complete care of cow herd under direction of General Manager (650 mother cows and 1300 yearlings)

• Facilities steward

o Care and repair of all cattle facilities on the ranch

• Advisor to General Manager in acquisitions of additional cattle

• Link between General Manager and BLM field operations

• Cattle record management and distribution of information to General Manager

• Management of cattle health

• Calving manager

• Schedule and manage all vaccination programs for herd health under direction of General Manager

• Attend schooling and other educational programs designed for furthering ranch knowledge

• Coordination of branding

• Coordination of shipping

• Awareness of cattle in Island Park, Chester, and the Pahsimeroi Valley

• Reside in the Pahsimeroi Valley, ID on the main ranch in a home provided

• Assist General Manager in all operations of the ranch including but not limited to

o Transportation of commodities

o Irrigation

o Hay Harvest

o Spring planting

• Management of our horse breeding program. Consists of approximately 20 mares and 2 stallions. Experience with horses is a plus.



Experience in the following is preferred:



• Herd management and record keeping

o Computer skills with Excel

• Health management for calves and cows

• Calving

• Understanding of cow scoring

• Feed rationing

• Doctoring

o Understanding of the following illnesses is helpful

 Scours

 Enterotoxaemia

 Respiratory infections

 E. Coli

 Coccidiosis

 others

• Handling of cattle

• Fence building skills

• Welding

• Equipment operator

• Truck driver

• Horsemanship skills in training, handling and roping

• Maintenance of equipment

• BQA certified



Personal skills preferred:



• Self starter

• Communicational

• Organizational

• Record keeping

• Hard working and committed

• Good attitude towards work

• Promptness

• Understanding of the word ‘hustle’

• Has vision

• Cleanliness is a must!



Compensation



• To be determined by the candidate’s experience.

o Depending on your abilities, you will be considered at

 $3500 per month for the first six months followed by a review. If all goes well you will be moved to $4000 per month

 A comfortable home will be provided along with utilities paid

 Beef will be provided

 Company pickup and trailer will be provided for company use only

 Bonuses will be offered depending on your dedication to the job and our successes at year end

 Compensation for interns will be considered

o *Note: With inclusion of a dwelling, beef, utilities paid and the salary with bonuses, your total compensation will run approximately $80-$90k per year.

• Horses will be provided depending on candidates experience in handling horses.

• A ranch pickup with a trailer will be provided

• Holiday time will depend on the circumstances of the ranch families in general. Cattle need to be fed and cared for every day.

• Vacation time will be allowed provided it is not during crunch times such as summer harvests and calving season.

We are a religious family that adheres to our standards. We do not create work for Sundays. We do the minimum to get us by. Cattle need to be fed, some doctoring may be necessary and of course the calving season waits for no one. Harvest will be scheduled around the Sabbath allowing observance whenever possible. We honor our Lord by guarding his sacred name. Abuse of such will not be tolerated. Hard-core profanity will also not be tolerated. We are a tobacco and alcohol-free ranch. Illegal drug use of any type is prohibited. Good grooming habits are also encouraged and appreciated.
