Description:
This is a rare opportunity to buy an exceptional saddle made by the late Gaylerd Thissell of Cottonwood, California. Not only was he named “SADDLE MAKER OF THE YEAR” in 2004 he was an equally talented silversmith. I understand when he was unable to acquire engraved silver when he needed it, he taught himself to do his own silver work. His exceptional leather carving plus his silver engraving is second to none. There is an estimated $400/$500 worth of Sterling silver in the corner plates, cantle plate, horn cap and six conchos. Even the rivet heads and screws are covered with engraved silver. The entire saddle is hand carved including the stirrups, billets, rear cinch sleeves, and underside of the fork. Measurements are 15” seat, 6½” gullet, horn is 3” tall with a 3” cap. The saddle was designed and constructed to be used and look good at the same time. The asking price of $2,250 including shipping to the lower 48 is only a fraction of its original price.
