Cats Poco Royal is registered as a brown gelding born 03/17/2017, but is definitely shedding out gray slowly. Has gray hairs throughout his body and on legs.Marketed for Juston McBride, this gelding was bred by Gene Lyda’s La Escalera Ranch in Ft. Stockton. La Escalera Ranch is one of the largest cattle ranches in Texas, consisting of more than 260,000 deeded acres in four counties (Pecos, Brewster, Archer and Baylor). According to a 2017 survey by The Land Report, the Lyda family is ranked No. 47 among the Top 100 Landowners in the United States. His sire is one of the younger La Escalera’s stallion, Frosty Little Cat, a gray son of Cats Merada. Cats Merada has become one of the top sires in the cutting horse industry with offspring amassing earnings of $4 million. Intelligence, athleticism, and beautiful conformation are all traits being passed on to the offspring of this great stallion.His foals have performed well in cutting, reining and working cow horse disciplines. Cats Merada has over 177K in earnings. Frosty Little Cat is out of a Smart Little Lena which needs no introduction.

Dam of the gelding is a daughter of Lyda’s senior stallion, Royal Laredo Roan. Royal Laredo Roan was bred by the Wichita Ranch and is a son of Laredo Roan. Laredo Roan is a full brother to Mecom Blue who earned himself over 6K in NCHA earnings. Besides all the names most know about on Royal Laredo Roan’s pedigree, Haidas Little Pep, Doc Bar, Nu Bar, Peppy San Badger, Poco Tivio, Doc Olena, Poco Bueno, Hollywood Gold, there is also a horse named Royal King who is a son of King in his pedigree both top and bottom. Just a fun fact, Royal King was bred by Felton Smathers of Llano TX, where we as a business currently reside. So just a very neat fact how this horse ties into our program! Royal Laredo Roan has been producing quality ranch horses for the La Escalera for several years.

This gelding has a watchy, sensitive, standoffish personality. He is extremely quick and smooth. Looks like he is floating when moving. He has not been started under saddle yet. He stands tied and will lung a bit too. Currently 14.3/15 hands expected to be 15+ hands. He has a good sized black foot, ample bone, big hipped and thick. He hasn’t been messed with a lot, so doesn’t know a lot, but when asked to do a job he is willing and picks up things extremely fast. Very athletic. Owner fully expects this gelding to be a nice ranch horse or performance horse for someone. Feet have been handled minimally, but no farrier work yet. Will come UTD with core vaccines, deworming, coggins, papers and signed transfer. .
