Description:
Adams Land & Cattle, LLC (ALCC) is a progressive, family owned cattle feeding business, located in Broken Bow, Nebraska. ALCC began in 1945 as a small dairy farm on 300 acres east of Broken Bow. Today, ALCC remains family-owned, but has grown into a multi-location operation with finishing lots in Nebraska and more than 100 backgrounding locations throughout the US and Canada.



Adams Land and Cattle has a new leadership opportunity at our South Feedlot in Broken Bow, Nebraska. This individual would be responsible for executing the feeding strategy within the Mill/Feeding team.



This person is responsible for:

- Supporting/driving the overall safety strategy of the company. Exemplifying safety expectations.

- Providing overall leadership of the Mill/Feeding area and identifying methods of optimizing safety, quality, and productivity. Activities include, but are not limited to:

--- Ensuring the daily operations in feed delivery are conducted accurately and consistently;

--- Being accountable for the daily mill and flaking production;

--- Managing planned downtime, backup feeding, and off shift work;

--- Evaluating daily feeding reports (e.g. TPH, DM’s, DMI’s, Bunk Conditions);

--- Directing all delivered feed commodities-unloading and loading;

--- Calling bunks, as needed.

- Working closely with the company nutritionist to drive optimum cattle performance.

- Maintaining and inventorying all feeding ingredients to ensure excellent feeding practices are being followed.

- Monitoring and maintaining reports and information flow to computers by inputting records in accordance with FDA and QA to ensure quality production.

- Driving a culture with a focus on effective equipment/facility maintenance by:

--- Ensuring that equipment/facilities are maintained, greased, washed, and preventative maintenance activities are completed in a timely fashion;

--- Submitting work orders for repairs;

--- Issuing performance reports for downtime and maintenance;

--- Ensuring completion of maintenance audit and issue reports.

- Overseeing the general cleanliness of work areas assigned to the work group.

- Cost center accountability, including assisting with budget development, managing the cost center’s operational performance at or favorable to budget, determining the appropriate capital expenditure schedule for the cost center, and working closely with the financial analyst assigned to the cost center.

- Approving invoices for cost center expenditures. Monitoring monthly cost center expenditures and explaining/communicating budget variances.

- Identifying continuous improvement opportunities to enhance company profitability through reduced expenses and/or increased revenue.

- Training and developing employees to be effective, efficient, and versatile. Developing bench strength within internal and external resources.

- Collaborating with Organizational Development on any human resource related topic or issue.

- Building and maintaining strong internal and external business relationships. Collaborating with internal and external resources.

- Working closely with all levels of the organization and promoting effective and positive relationships with other teams.



Ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

- Commitment to safety and quality culture.

- Previous Mill Operation and/or Feeding experience is beneficial.

- Knowledge of general mechanics, agriculture or rural background and interest is a plus.

- Serve all customers, both internally and externally, with a positive, professional, respectful, and courteous attitude with honesty and integrity.

- Proficient in routine and preventative maintenance of equipment.

- Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/work efforts at a time.

- Ability to use analytical techniques for problem solving, coordination, and decision making.

- Driven and action-oriented, with a high attention to detail.

- Strong interest in leadership of others.

- Excellent training skills.

- Individual must work well in team-oriented environment.

- Ability to collaborate with multiple areas on the feedlot.

- Professional communication (both verbal and written), presentation, and customer service skills.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

- Bachelor’s degree preferred; can substitute 2 years of related experience with Associate’s Degree or 4 years of experience with High School Diploma.

- Minimum of 4 years of experience; 2+ years of management/leadership experience.



This position requires:

- Valid Driver’s License.

- Individual must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, if needed.

- Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally; 25-50 pounds of force frequently; 10-20 pounds of force constantly. Standing and sitting frequently; walking, carrying, lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling, bending, twisting, climbing, stairs, reaching/handling/grasping, and kneeling/crouching occasionally.
