LF Ranch:

The LF Ranch operates on over 40,000 acres in two units near Augusta, Montana—pop. 400, K-12 school, library, restaurants, hotels, etc.

HQ is 12 miles from town on a good gravel road. The ranch currently runs 2,000 head of mother cows.

The LF is focused on operating a high-functioning, ecologically diverse cattle ranch.

LF Stockman/Grazier Job Description:

The LF Stockman/Grazier is the primary grass manager for the ranch. This person will be supervised directly by the ranch manager. The position is a hands-on/in-the-saddle managerial position. Duties will include, but are not limited to, herding cattle, erecting temporary electric fence, calving, branding, feeding, digital record keeping, and caring for the horse herd.

Required Skill Set:

Successful candidate will demonstrate a strong desire to implement low-stress stock handling techniques from horseback. They will also possess the knowledge and skills to practice non-selective grazing techniques with a cow herd in excess of 1,500 head.

Familiarity with rest-rotation grazing, temporary fence construction, and planned grazing are important qualifications.

Basic computer skills are required: email, Exel, smartphone familiarity and digital mapping

Experience/Education:

Minimum 5 years experience in similar position.

Bachelors degree preferred

Ranching for Profit or Holistic Management background preferred

Compensation:

The LF Stockman/Grazier position is paid monthly. Starting salary is depending on experience. Health insurance and participation in a 401K are available after a probationary period. A home is included with all utilities (propane, electricity, phone, internet, and smart phone allowance), and the ability to have two personal horses at the ranch.
