If you are looking for a horse that is gentle for absolutely anyone, even if you only ride him once or twice a year, then take a look at Apache. He is the cutest sorrel and white paint gelding, 14.3 hh and with the sweetest personality. Apache is 19 years old but healthy and in good shape. He came off of a ranch in North Texas and was used on the ranch for all phases of ranch work, including roping and gathering cattle in the pasture, sorting pairs, and tagging and doctoring calves. The last several years Apache has been retired from ranch work and has been the go to horse for people who come to the ranch and want a safe horse to ride. Young or old, experienced or not, anyone can ride this horse and be safe doing it. He has hauled my 4 year old son all over the ranch and takes excellent care of him. Apache has never offered to buck, rear, bite kick or take off, and is the type of horse you can just pull out of the pasture and hop on without warming him up or worrying about getting bucked off, no matter how long its been since he was ridden. Apache is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. He rides just as good bareback with a halter as he does with a saddle and bridle. He would be a great horse for a weekend rancher to check cattle on, or for a young cowboy to ride on the ranch with dad and learn how to work cattle. Apache rides quietly on a loose rein, content to walk quietly all day long but will easily step into a trot or lope if asked. He can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, will happily lead or follow, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. Apache has a smooth trot and lope that are easy to sit to, is good on both leads, and will work a gate. He has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it.
