If you are looking for a safe, dependable ranch horse that will ride the same whether you ride him every day or once a month, then take a look at Angelo. He has just been a slave his entire life, used on the ranch until he was in his mid teens and then turned out for several years until we bought him. Angelo is 18 years old, 15 hh, sound and in good health, although he does need to gain just a few pounds. He had been turned out on pasture before we bought him, but we have floated his teeth and wormed him and he is steadily gaining weight. Angelo came off of a ranch outside of San Angelo where he was used for all phases of ranch work, including sorting pairs, roping and doctoring cattle in the pasture, and checking fence. He is cowy and good on the end of a rope. He would be the perfect horse for a weekend rancher who wants a horse to work cattle and check fence on, a young cowboy who wants to do ranch work beside his dad or grandpa, or even a beginner wanting to learn has to do some team sorting. But Angelo also enjoys a leisurely ride down the trails and is an excellent trail horse. He is safe for just about any age, including the kiddos, and is the same horse every time you ride him. He has an excellent handle and neck reins easy enough that anyone can roll him around one handed. Angelo is light mouthed and has an excellent stop, will take both leads, sidepass, and work a gate. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. He can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. Angelo has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. Angelo has excellent ground manners, stands quietly tied, and is easy to catch, load, haul and shoe. He has an old injury to his left ear that does not affect his hearing or anything, just makes it sit a little crooked on his head. $2500.
