This is a seasonal position for September 1 to December 31, 2019, but has the potential to become full-time for the right candidate. If invited to stay on full-time the individual would switch to Crawford Cattle’s DH Ranch mid-winter and work on that crew until weaning time, then switch back to the feedlot. Grayson Feedlot Responsibilities: -Assist the feedlot manager to receive, settle, process, sort, and revaccinate 5,000+ calves -Oversee health of calves with goal to achieve >0.5% death loss through the fall -Doctor sick cattle promptly and efficiently- must be able to rope head and heels -Assist the feedlot manager in sorting calves to assemble and ship contracted load lots -Assist in Pregnancy testing cattle -Occasionally operate machinery, i.e. front-end loader to stack hay, water truck to water pens DH Ranch Responsibilities -Work effectively as part of a four-man cowboy crew to care for over 2,000 cows -Gather and move cattle on remote, extensive rangelands (many pastures >100 sections) -Brand and vaccinate calves in spring and summer -Stay in remote line camp with other cowboys for several days at a time in the summer -Occasional irrigation/machine operation Expectations: The successful candidate must be: -Honest, dependable and punctual -Respectful of supervisor and coworkers -Able to see what needs done and proactively do it -Committed to excellence and ongoing self- improvement -Cheerful and happy to be here -100% drug-free, and alcohol-free on the job Compensation: Salary is DOE, housing available for single cowboy. Beef provided. The ranch will feed a reasonable number of personal horses.
