Description:
Hippo is an 11 year old blue roan Percheron/Quarter Horse gelding, 15 hh and every bit of 1300 pounds. He is nicely built, with a wide chest and plenty of bone. He recently had a bit of rain rot that has caused him to rub his mane and the top of his tail out, but it is steadily growing back in. Hippo is being sold as a project horse, which means he is not suitable for your children, your grandmother, or a beginner rider unless they are working with a trainer. Hippo has excellent ground manners and is very gentle to be around. He is friendly and loves people, but part of his problem is he has been fed treats and allowed to get a little spoiled. Hippo is nicely broke and has a good handle. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. He rides quietly on a loose rein and prefers to go slow, but will easily step into a trot or lope if asked. Hippo is good on both leads, stops easily, and has the most wonderful lope you’ve ever sat to. He has been in parades, has carried a flag in grand entries, and has been ridden many miles along the road and nothing bothers him. Hippo will ride fine by himself or with other horses, but if riding with other horses he prefers to stay with the group rather than go off on his own. He will leave the group with some urging, but prefers to stay. He rides excellent 90% of the time, but the other 10% of the time he can be a bit of a turd. The real reason we are calling him a project is because if he runs across something he really doesn’t want to do, he may stop and refuse to move, back up and refuse to go forward, or try to run you under a tree. He doesn’t want to go fast so it’s more irritating than it is dangerous, but it is still there and that’s why he is being listed at this price and advertised as a project.
